When María Antonia Ponce Perdomo from the Honduran COCABEL coffee cooperative boarded a flight from Honduras to Peru, she had never attended an international Fairtrade forum before.
By the end of the week, she had walked through Peruvian coffee farms, watched two fellow Honduran cooperatives take home a Golden Cup award, and come home with ideas to bring back to COCABEL.
The trip was organized by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and its long standing partner CLAC–Fairtrade, bringing together cooperative representatives, exporters, buyers, and financial institutions for an educational tour and the 2nd Fairtrade Forum in Lima – a gathering built around one of coffee's most pressing questions: how does fair trade actually translate into stronger, more resilient farming communities?
