[Editor's Note: Talking and thinking through issues of institutional racism and systemic privilege -- and how these affect the Cooperative and Solidarity Economy movements -- has been a recurring theme for GEO over the last few years.  The following discussion between Tim Wise and Dr. Lisa Anderson-Levy provides a nuanced, provocative, and impassioned analysis of how these social injustices play-out and are perpetuated in society at large, as well as offering some suggestions for ways to counteract them.  While the ideas presented may be challenging, we hope that they will also be fruitful in our efforts to better understand one another on our way to building a Solidarity Economy. ]

Tim Wise, one of the country’s leading anti-racism advocates and author of White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son, converses with Associate Professor of Anthropology, Dr. Lisa Anderson-Levy on the subject of whiteness in America. Wise has been called “a vanilla brother in the tradition of (abolitionist) John Brown” by Cornell West.
